About the marina
Bassin des Pins is a locked basin on the edge of La Rochelle's old port, a common stop for yachts crossing Biscay or heading for the islands of Ré and Oléron.
Inside, finger berths take boats up to 22 metres. The yard has a 50-tonne travel hoist, a chandlery and riggers on site, so it is a good place to fix things before a crossing. The towers of the Vieux Port and the covered market are ten minutes' walk away.
Getting here
The gate opens two hours either side of high water. The waiting pontoon outside has power and water for boats that arrive on the wrong side of the tide. Call on VHF 9 at the Richelieu tower and the lock keeper will give you a slot.
