A winter on the hard
Lift-out, storage, and the jobs that only make sense while the boat is out of the water.

Ashore is when a boat tells you what the season actually cost. Anodes, cutless bearings, and a deck seam that was only a damp patch in July all wait for the yard.
Ask the marina for the lift and the weekly storage before you agree the berth. The number belongs next to the mooring, not in a surprise invoice in October.
If you are buying, read the last yard bill. It is a better survey of how the boat has been kept than the polish on the topsides.
